I’m not sure who makes worse decisions… Mark Zuckerberg or the author.

The book is so riveting, I find myself enjoying reading about mutually assured destruction more than a lot of things. What does it say about my parenting that bedtime is more stressful than reading about nuclear annihilation?

A really interesting hypothetical and fun read! I just don’t think any parallel life would be very fulfilling if I were thrown into it without knowing the people surrounding me and being the person who had been shaped by my surroundings. I wouldn’t enjoy my children nearly so much if I weren’t familiar with them, and I would hate my job if I hadn’t studied biology. But I’m lucky to love both!

I understand English, Portuguese, and Spanish and I still feel that I need to understand at least another two languages and an entire library of allusions to understand this book. 😂

Also WHO IS ADAM 1 AND ADAM 2? There was there was like one sentence at the beginning of the book that explains this. Why can’t he call them “inner self” and “outward self” if he’s not really going to explain what they mean?

I wanted so badly to enjoy this book. But so far I’m just confused. Service does not build character? To be a moral person is to be deceptive and give up our identity in pursuit of a single desire? Character does not involve honesty or vulnerability? We would build character if we revived puritanical values and cultivated more self-hatred and fear of love?
Where is the love? Where is the truth?

Really beautiful descriptions of ancient animals and female bodies interwoven with trite criticism of any religious tradition.
