Margery Kempe’s boke has been a mostly fun ride so far. It is the sort of thing that should be read strategically in a way, not unlike Mandeville that I read before. Lots of scenes can meander, artlessly repeat, etc., but one is rewarded for honing in on the key moments which paint pictures of the woman, the religion, the world and the literature. It’s quite quick reading overall, though ebook footnotes slow it.
