Murakami’s writing is so lyrical that I get lost and can’t explain the story.

Thank you Utah for banning this book. Otherwise it would never have been on my radar, and it is one of the best books I’ve read this year. Why did you even ban it in the first place?

Robin is starting Asimov's Guide to the Bible: The Old Testament
I’ve parsed my way through parts and thoroughly enjoyed what I’ve read. However, the public library wants it back. 5 stars for a book 1/3 read.

Too much telling and not enough showing.
Also on page 95, was “He (William) pictured his wife and Julia (his wife) sleeping…” an editorial fail or intentional?

Robin is starting Vegan Cooking for Two: 200+ Recipes for Everything You Love to Eat
3 recipes in and I’m hooked: mac & “cheese” 👍🏽, carrot/tofu/Thai soup 👍🏽, mushroom/pasta/“cheese”😱. Admittedly, I needed to purchase ingredients new to me (eg, nutritional yeast, miso). I greatly appreciate the timeline/sequence and substitution/enhancement recommendations.

Robin
Robin is on page 100 of 303 of The Family Chao
Instead of telling a story with nuance, the author chose to spell it out for the reader starting with explaining the plural of Chao followed by the “Three Brothers” monologue, etc.

If I’d read this in ‘80-90s, I’d have probably thought it trite and fluffy. Reading it in 2022, I find it relevant, insightful, and affirming.

Robin is starting Black No More
I read about a production based on this book and was intrigued. Brief summary Black man is selling whiteness to other Black folk and they integrate with unintended consequences. 90+ years after it was published it is still relevant and would be banned by some. There is a facetiousness and cynicism (plus wordliness, the characters and their names, anti-white-ism) that is rarely found in today’s literature.
