I don't say this often but the characters in these books are inching on being too moral...

This reads like it was originally fanfiction - as in there's a lot of characters and they're all a little vaguely introduced. Almost in the way fanfiction relies on you already knowing all the names of all the characters and just sliding into the story.

And I currently care for none of them.

I would put up with so much of the creepy MMCs but I'd be so fast out that old man's house lol

I do wonder if Ames is ancient but he's lived in Ash Grove his entire life (both are his own statements) what do people think it's happening?

I was definitely expecting a clean or at least closed door romance... this is not this lol I'm not mad about it, just an observation

The MMC's secretary, a woman the FMC does not know in any way, just told the FMC "I don’t know if you have a magical vagina or what…" Everyone in this book talks like this. They just say things that should definitely be inside thoughts. I don't know if it's for comedic value or not but it's really annoying

I know this is one of Keeland's first books, so I hope things improve with the following books, but I am not feeling it. And by it I mean any sympathy or attachment to the characters. Or any real chemistry between them. The smut is hot but the rest is very mid

I know Ali has a formula and it seems to be working but... Is it just me, or are all her female STEM characters emotionally stunted? Can't a woman be smart and crave romance?

Watching Veil and Adolin try to set Kaladin up is hilarious

I was convinced I was almost done with this book but it turns out I'm only 30% - there's action and drama, things are happening, and yet it feels like nothing's happening.
I think it's mainly because we switch from present to past without any sort of tie between the two and without any cliff hanger in either to make you crave returning.
Also, the narrator uses the same voice and accent all the time. It's confusing

My expectations weren't that high to begin with but they're crashing already...
