I don't know why reading other people's opinions on books (often books I haven't read) is my idea of crack-reading, but here we are.

Zoe was right. "The Queen of Erewhon" is a great, lingering story. So glad I read it.

A really good anthology so far! Shows its age a bit (published in 1998), but not too badly.

This book is just beautiful so far.

I wanted a light read and this is indeed that. I can't, however, ignore the fact that there are also no named women characters. It's statistically bizarre at this point. And when they do exist, they're introduced with a note about their appearance. The most important detail about any woman! ಠ_ಠ

Kiini Ibura Salaam has *voice*. This is going to be good.

This is pretty fucking fun so far. Lots of swearing, grisly humour, fucked up characters and weird shit. Also: Bullington's usual ability to write medieval Europe that feels a lot more like historical medieval Europe than most other SFF authors manage.

It also lays bare what the translation from dialect into English takes out of the tales' wording.

The handful of folktales preserved in original dialect are just... ahhh. Love.
