I haven't wanted to leap into a book to physically fight a character so badly in a hot minute. So glad Nan called them out so damn hard, my heart was breaking for her!!

I had to go back and check, but at the end of The Hollow Dead, Adage tells Keira that the police have told Dr Kelsey that Gavin is dead, identified by dental records... But now he's putting up missing posters?

The anatomical description of Ian's *ahem* "fascinating appendage" and Beth's assessment of it's particular flavour is sending me into giggles 😂

So far, so good!

So far I'm enjoying this book! I've been meaning to read it for years, but kept talking myself out of it for one reason or another.

Starting this in bed right before going to sleep was a terrible idea. 0/10, do not recommend. I don't know how I didn't have nightmares.

After binge reading so many of these books, I think I'll start a drinking game — drink every time she used the word "boneless".

As someone who has a pet Rainbow Lorikeet that somehow miraculously doesn't swear (though he enjoys telling people to shut up, amongst other things) I would lay down my life for Hooker.

I cannot believe that I've found a character I hate more than Billy Prior. He was easily going to win my "Most Reprehensible Character of 2026" award winner, but then Marius Pontmercy showed up and was like "hold my baguette"

I love how Marius doesn't like that Éponine stalked him across Paris when he quite literally did the exact same thing to Cosette. How unsurprising that a privileged white man doesn't like getting a taste of his own damn medicine.

I don't love the whole "I'm lying about absolutely everything and our whole relationship is built on a long con" thing that K.J. Charles does. Maybe I'll skip her other books with this kind of plot, because I didn't like Slippery Creatures for the same reason. It makes me feel really anxious. Don't get me wrong, her writing is great, it's just a personal stress thing. I generally prefer lower drama/angst romances.

Jean Valjean has escaped Javert's clutches yet again! He's the most OP elderly man. I loved Thénadier's unhinged villain monologuing. Marius is truly the most useless shitweasel in modern literature. I'm thoroughly entertained by the melodrama of it all.
