It’s hard for me to continue reading this because I greatly dislike the lead character! If anyone has read this, please tell me if I should keep going.

Here's a good example of why I am quitting this halfway through: "I particularly admire the tender construction of your spine which in the gentle dawning is a ladder between the deep in which stars are perfectly stars, and the heavens where we converse with eagles."

This is not my cup of tea. For me, her words feel belabored and excessive. It's difficult to make any meaning out of her poetry, and when you do, it feels unoriginal.

I'm also reading her memoir as well, which I'm forcing myself to get through....

It's aggravating because there are so many amazing books out there that I want to get to- and when someone publishes, I feel like they're saying, "hey! I have something worth your time." But she doesn't in this book. Instead, she has thrown together a sloppy story and checked off "publish a book" on her bucket list.

Simply put, this book is written very poorly. Her integration of quotes and outside sources is forced and choppy, taking you outside of the narration. It's like she is telling a pretty good story with her observations and her personal experiences, but to actually publish something she needed it to be longer so she went back and found some quotes and just dumped them into her journal.

I'm only 2/3 the way done here but am close to going ahead and giving this book 1 star. I honestly have no idea how this woman got this thing published.

Danielle is reading The Picture of Dorian Gray
I don't think I like Mr. Wilde so much. I'm sorta confused as to whether or not he is pumping his own values through the a-hole character, Lord Henry. After reading his bio, I'm thinkin' so. What the heck! If anyone has some redeemable work to point me to, please let me know. Otherwise, this dude is done.

Honestly I think this took me entirely too long to realize who the narrator is. But I don't understand the colors thing. Can anyone explain that?

Maybe she's a fairy who became human. It'd make sense since she calls the pond an ocean and she came from the "old world". I guess we will find out. Very interesting so far.

Fire went out. (Isn't that the greatest perhaps of all?) I didn't have a clue what this book was about but what with Miles' "gift" and all, this story definitely had a tragic feel to it. Weird how books feel so real...
