Holy shit, this book picks up seamlessly from the last one and drops so many bars in the first chapter that I have to take a moment to just write them down and think about them all.

In my first attempt at reading all of my coffee table and cooking books, I have made it pretty much halfway through one three quarters of the way through the year. SOOOOOO I think that speaks to the eventuality of my goal: it will take the rest of my life. But if I can read one a year, I think that's probably a good goal.

So The Black Death was horrific and gruesome, but honestly it PALES in comparison to the oppression or outright extermination of Jews during the 14th century.

What a book! And to think it's been hiding on my shelf for SIX YEARS since it was forced upon me by a friend. And furthermore to think that John O'Hara continues to hide out (not on purpose obviously) in American literary history when he should be at the forefront since he actually stayed in America (yeah that's a dig at you Hem and Scott).

Damn you Laurence, can't you see Temeraire IS a slave and your 19th century British sensibilities are soundly out of whack.

Still not even halfway, ugh. It's not bad but the jokes really don't land on a Marvel noob like me. I read it for the author and while I can detect his comedic stylings, context is everything.
