Sometimes there is "too much of a good thing", and those constant referrals to buying the recorded meditations etc on his site are getting too annoying. I understand he makes a living out of it, but honestly, man, selling spirituality is kind of an oxymoron.

... The book was actually just such a pastiche of proverbs, many of them English, and hence familiar even to Congressmen, newspaper editors and other such illiterates. 

It was constantly suggested that the high point of female heroism was to commit suicide rather than face the ‘dishonour’ of rape, as if the shame and guilt for the crime would fall on the victim rather than on the perpetrator.

In the beginning, there were two nations. One was vast, mighty and magnificent empire, brilliantly organized and culturally unified, which dominated a massive swathe of the earth. The other was an undeveloped, semi-feudal realm, riven by religious factionalism and barely able to feed its illiterate, diseased and stinking masses. The first nation was India. The second was England.

And she frequently forgot
that her body (all our bodies) is a house of sand.
That it had shattered and is shattering still.
Slipping stubbornly through fingers.

On cold mornings, that first white cloud of escaping breath is proof that we are living. Proof of our bodies' warmth. Cold air rushes into dark lungs, soaks up the heat of our body and is exhaled in perceptible form, white flecked with grey. Our lives miraculous diffusion, out into the empty air.

What the meaning of life isn't - that I do know. Scraping together money and possessions and things, living a famous person's life and appearing in the gossip pages of weekly magazines, being so afraid of loneliness and silence that you never get to take a step back and think: what am I doing with my short time on Earth?

Jesus Christ, Arrowby, could you be more boring? Could I be less interested in your VERY detailed daily routine? No, I don't care about the oranges you ate for breakfast and about your swimming in the nude. I'll never know why I keep inflicting this upon myself - the compulsion to finish a book that leaves me totally indifferent just because some holy monster of literature happens to have written it. Not a good start

Started out nicely enough, only to come to a grinding halt, when the writer suddenly realized she's getting paid by the word. I'm getting drowned in so many superfluous phrases...

The carriage is lined with red silk, violent as a murder scene.

This should be one of the top recommended readings for any language learner.

Thank goodness I'd read Simon Garfield's Just My Type, otherwise I would never be able to appreciate why sans serifs are no good in advertising (with which I intuitively totally agree). Ogilvy is delightful, his books is much more intriguing than many works of fiction.

Sickening, bone-chilling, eye-opening. I'm very very deeply troubled by this book.

This guy is simply delightful. This is just the kind of pop-science book that I love - imaginative, succinct AND funny. Love it.

Geez, please remind me, what was it again? The Myers Way? I think repeating it only ten times per page is not nearly enough... And also, not annoying AT ALL.

I'd expect the author to proof-listen to the audiobook and advise the narrator about the right pronunciation of major places like Sofia at least... (Not to mention other, only slightly less significant names. 'Asparukh?). Not cool, AT ALL.
Otherwise, one of the best books I've read this year.

Oh, for crying out loud, get on with it! I do NOT care about the process of making the sausage, I just want the goddamned sausage! Why would anyone care about all the BORING details of compiling this volume in its present form? OK, I get it, you worked very hard. Way to go. Can we now proceed to Twain's actual autobiography? I'm sure he'd never sanction the publication of the book with this ridiculous "introduction".

Начи, тая девойка дето чете текста има толкова монотонна интонация, че закопава един и без това не особено разтърсващ текст. За приспивни приказки щеше да е идеална.

Σαν να διαβάζω τον ονειροκριτη, μόνο που αντί για όνειρα το βιβλίο μεταφράζει και ερμηνεύει τα σωματικά συμπτώματα. Τελικά δεν είμαι χοντρή, απλά κουβαλάω ένα βάρος...

Oh, Yanis (!), your accent is soooo cute! But it was good that you chose a different narrator for the rest of the book, otherwise people would be too distracted by this cuteness overload to grasp the monstrosity of what you describe later on.

Goodreads, your new homepage and the virtually non-existing updates we (don't) get suck. Thanks for nothing. Kindly please consider rolling back to the old one which we all liked much better.

On another subject, I was saddened upon finding out that Chris Tingle did not after all win this year's Hugo Award. Congratulations to the winners but know that none of you brings his breath of fresh air to the sci fi landscape

Η Ζατελη κλασικά και αυτή από τη σχολή του Τζ. Μαρτιν: μιλιουνια χαρακτήρες, πλοκές, αιμομιξίες, γλώσσα πλουμιστη και φιοριτούρες. Αν δεν ξεπαστρέψει πεντ έξι κάθε πενήντα σελίδες, δεν προχωρά η υπόθεση (που ο Θεός να την κάνει υποθεση).

Η Ζατελη γράφει σε μια τόσο πλούσια γλώσσα που θα ήταν κανείς αχάριστος να μην την εκτιμά. Είναι όμως σαν παστέλι με μέλι και ξηρούς καρπούς - πεντανόστιμο, αλλά δύσκολα να το μασήσεις, κολλάει στα δόντια, και κάνεις δυο ώρες να κατεβάσεις μια μπουκιά. Έτσι και αυτό το βιβλίο - το απολαμβάνεις, αλλά παλεύεις...

Ein kleiner Mann, ein kleines Leben - so weit finde ich es ziemlich passend. Merkwürdigerweise erinnert es mich an "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn".

Αλλά φτάνει που μιλάω εγώ, ας μιλήσουν οι εικόνες (εδώ συγκεκριμένα αναφέρομαι στη στίξη, που ακόμα και για αυτοέκδοση έχει κάποια απαράδεκτα και οφθαλμοφανή λάθη):

Πυροβολήστε με τώρα, ρε παιδιά, σε λίγο περιμένω να διαβάσω τίποτα νουθεσιες και από τον Πα`ί`σιο! Παραφραζω: "Είχα περάσει ίωση και πήρα αντιβίωση (!), και δεν ήξερα ότι η αντιβίωση αναιρεί τη δράση των αντισυλληπτικών (!) για κάποιους μήνες (!!!!), και γκαστρώθηκα! Για νέα κοπέλα είσαι στον κόσμο σου βρε Άρτεμι...(Δες εδώ πετυχημένη χρήση αποσιωπητικών)
