Slogging my way through this, trying not to give up. This book is awful, yet somehow I'm curious to see how it ends.

Very impressed so far. The title is a bit silly and provocative but the book is superb. A stunning expose of a vicious cult that undermines much of what is good in this world. Sadly, as with so many great books, the people who would benefit most will not likely read it.

I don't understand how a major book by a major author from a major publishing house has evidently not been proofread or fact-checked. Koh Samui is referred to by at least two different spellings, Koh Phangan is occasionally referred to as Ko(h) Lanta, and Mr. Houellebecq's translator seems to think that all English punctuation marks can be used interchangeably.

Very much enjoying the story of this incredible man's journeys through a world so different to that of the 21st century. He writes in a very entertaining way.

Paul Theroux is currently my favourite author and I'm incredibly excited to be starting another of his books.

I have read so many of Theroux's books this year. For me, Saint Jack and Great Railway Bazaar are the best, but this one is impressing me, too. I'm very much enjoying the random stories of other people's lives.

It's great to read HST's interviews, but too many mistakes in the text and far too repetitive. Should have been much shorter and better edited.

So far, very impressed. A funny, engaging book that is incredibly up-to-the-minute. Of course, reading it in 2019 it might be ridiculous and out-of-date....

A very interesting and timely investigation into why we no longer seem to care about truth. The book focuses to a great extent on the sad victories of Donald Trump and Brexit.
