Just finished signing the Declaration of Independence, moving along at breakneck pace. Meacham writes with the eventual American legacy in mind, avoiding in-the-moment context or deeper character development.

A fine example of popular science. That is, a bit too popular and not enough science. Bryson certainly tells a story, but he beats around the bush too much along the way. He would do more justice focusing on a few great scientists and discoveries, rather than a few sentences on every scientist.
