Onto the second section's focus character where one is reminded to hold off hate and distaste for a character until the end of the book. For movies, its easy to separate the actor from the character, the more hated the role, the better the acting. Books on the othed hand have only the writer to credit for the reception of a character.

This Della character is making it hard to give a happy birthday to her.

The first section is a good start and an entertainingly realistic snippet of how children see the world. Without knowledge of the otherness than of being kids but with the desire of being treated as adults from the moment they can speak. Their speech also being formed phonetically before it is logically sensible. The effort to make the narrative as if spoken by a child is acknowledged for the Scarlett character.

Riane is finished with The Summer Without Men
Ending this feels like a stretch fully stretched since the narrative diversions occur at almost every page. Confusion was ensured with its constant referencing to parallels in Literature, Science, Arts, History and well researched ideas throughout centuries' development.

With Women Studies, its author's central idea and lens, this ended with a maturing female perspective sprinkled with skepticism and discrepancy.

The writing is now arduous and lengthy in distractive narratives and fourth wall ruptures of text and monologued internal or narrated thoughts. Confusion erupting at every page turn as each point is prolonged by an unrelated and highly scientific diversion thought halted only if the reader is unaware or without understanding of the endless references.

Understood with much patience as direction is unpredictable.

Live to know yourself more to seek contentment in hope and knowledge. In life, yearnings are a less is more philosophy of life, always in the quantity of enough and no more than your needs.

The annual goal this year of 2026 is 26, but not simply that, instead it shall be like this:
~ 26 BB or board books
~ 26 kids' books (flat, chapter, activity, short stories/books)
~ 26 novels or TPBs
~ 26 e-books or online material

Based on 2025, not all books are of similar heft, content or impact, hence this consideration for estimated books read in addition to goodreads book statistics.

Read >70+ this year.

19 Trust in God,
past: His mercy
present: His love
future: His providence

21 Do not neglect and give great attention and gain much cheerfulness of life. Fireplace: "a live thing in a dead room". --> perspective and purpose can shift value in something

22 Nature "lives and loves in every place."

13 There's wisdom not in books, but in human hearts of people around us... more home truths to be learnt from a noisy debate in an alehouse than in a government setting. -> sometimes manners police too much of the profound thought

14 It is the making, rather than the results, that brings joy. -> process over product

17 The most important things don't always take up the most words!

18 Why restless, hope still

Will stop reading... because I have lost access to this via an app reader on a smart phone that has been on standby for repairs since May 2025. Halt, until I find an alternative but no guarantees.

p.63~ do people love you because you are so positive, or are you so positive since they love you?
~ "Sometimes she actually yearned to want something, so much that she could hardly bear it. It seemed so vital, wanting things. But usually the feeling passed."

The world is an ultimately paradoxical equation, it tells you to want something then just as quick as you do, it tries to take it away and deny you. What to do.

p.63~ "It's easier to stay optimistic if you never have to clear up the mess afterwards."

To know the struggle of resolution and the efforts, pains, and life it takes to achieve what's necessary. To survive before you even try to live. So few do understand that without the pain, you wouldn't know how hard it is to get back up again.

p.48~ ...she wanted to be noticed. Mother never did, because she never had to be noticed, for she always did everything without being told.

p.49~ "...from that day devoted herself to just walking around being afraid of dying and lying there stinking."

p.61~ it's difficult to know who you are, once you are alone, when you have always been there for the sake of someone else."

Living for someone else is not living.
