I hate to dnf a book club book, but I might have to. this is so long and there are so many more interesting things I could be doing with my time

Okay listen I'm going to finish this thing out of spite, but HOW does a woman born in 1991 write something that reads so much like a man wrote it in the 1970s. woman feeling guilty about being with a man who loves her in case she can't give him children. jesus christ.

I wonder if monogamous people find Peter's struggle interesting and profound or whatever or if they too would like to kick him under a bus

I haven't had this much fun reading a book in a very long time. The protagonist is the most annoying person in the world and I love him. So far just an absolute delight.

This might be a DNF. I'm perplexed by the glowing reviews, because so far I'm finding it...kind of boring? I was slightly engaged during the survival bits, but I simply do not care about Davia's backstory because frankly it's all telling and no showing, all politics and no real feeling, and why should I care about the politics of a colonizing empire? The book hasn't given me a reason to.

I'm going to have to finish this in another format, the narrator for Kit's POV in the second half of the audiobook is INSUFFERABLE 😑

If I had a nickel for every time I listened to an audiobook where the narrator could not correctly pronounce the word "hydrangeas" I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice.

I'm loving this book, but I cannot recommend the audiobook and I am BEGGING men to stop narrating books with female characters if they are just going to do over-the-top Mrs. Doubtfire voices for them. It's offensive and makes it hard to like these characters however well they're written. Just use your own normal voice, I promise readers aren't stupid and won't be confused by the lack of grating falsetto.

12 minutes into the audio book and the narrator's """Japanese""" accent was so bad I had to tap out. The reviews tell me the accents only get worse, so I'll have to get a different edition. I can't believe this man got paid to narrate this book. Truly a prime example of "apply for jobs you aren't qualified for because men do it every single day."
