This might be a DNF. I'm perplexed by the glowing reviews, because so far I'm finding it...kind of boring? I was slightly engaged during the survival bits, but I simply do not care about Davia's backstory because frankly it's all telling and no showing, all politics and no real feeling, and why should I care about the politics of a colonizing empire? The book hasn't given me a reason to.

Yikes I didn't realize this was a colonizer/colonized romantic pairing. Doesn't make me want to read it now. Think I'll just re-read This Is How You Lose The Time War instead

Yeah, and I don't think that's inherently unworkable, but based on the more critical reviews it uh...doesn't sound like it's well-handled in the rest of the book.
