My experience of Fairyland so far:
At 5%: What a weird, abrupt way to start a story.
10%: This is somehow the gayest story I have ever read.
20%: Just go ahead and break my heart why don't you.
30%: I thought my heart was already broken but nope.

We're going to finish this book eventually! Almost there! I have learned some cool stuff about malaria and how antibiotic resistance works, but the strangest and most-eye-opening thing to me, honestly, has been trying to understand people's attitudes toward sexually transmitted diseases pre-HIV.

First impression: this is like a bizarro-world version of Out of the Silent Planet.

How am I supposed to read a book in which cats die. This should not be allowed.

Seriously though I had to stop reading and do something else or I would've started crying on the metro.

Things I want to read more of in the new year:

1. new science fiction (by which I mean, not Old Important Classics)
2. something historical with adventure and a bit of romance. I think I'm feeling nostalgic for the Jacky Faber series.

Any recommendations?

So the premise of this book is that For Reasons Of Her Own, the main character deliberately makes herself as unfashionable and socially awkward as possible. It's surprisingly stressful (for me) to read.

I'm just going to pretend I didn't see that series title there.

Things I like:
Bisexual characters in YA fiction!

Things I don't like as much:
Bisexual characters who discover their sexuality via a love triangle where they have to choose between a specific guy and girl.

Not that this isn't a real thing that happens to people sometimes, but in fiction it can be awkward.
