Correction - writing wasn't childish, the main character seemed to be. Which lends to why I am having a hard time liking her. Story getting more interesting. Plot getting thicker. Not 100% in love but things are looking up.

I'm not really sure I like the writing style here. Feels childish, remedial. And while she's growing on me little by little, I'm having a hard time liking the main character. Hoping things turn around in the second half of the book - worth finding out.

So far not loving it. I felt dropped into the story, and the mythology has so many holes in it. Going to keep on for a bit hoping for a redemption in the predictable plot and fillings to the holes. :(

So far I am digging this book!!
The writing is fantastic.

Only concern is it's labeled as a book for 9+ and having a 9 y/o who reads far beyond her grade level - the first page of the first chapter is enough for me to question if they made the right age range choice. It mentions a rock star in jail for having sex with a minor and how the 16 y/o girl protag would still like to "lose it" to him still...
