This book—maybe like any novel from Kingsolver?—is a little too preachy for my taste. I realize it's a retelling of David Copperfield, and though it's been a while since I've read that book, I don't remember quite it having as much preaching and telling instead of showing. Some of the telling is worthwhilie, but there's just too much of it, and the preaching is never called for.
