Geez, the things people do when the woman is "barren". Ha! Under a culture tied with patriarchy, no one would suspect that a man *can* be barren. Oh sorry, forgot that a man's action and conduct is always right and to be a woman is to be something that is always lacking.

On demanding a "reciprocation of understanding" when addressing race in conversation:

I have a bad feeling that I'll get disappointed in the next chapters. Mostly because rather than explaining a current controversy and giving it a context, the writer just went on pointing what was wrong with it. Perhaps, that has a lot to do with me for being not so up-to-date with US current issues. Well, let's see if I'll be able to devour this.

I got a copy with the cover of a half-naked woman and how am I not convinced that this is an erotica... Anyway, my assumption proved to be wrong as I dig into it

'Rich as Stink' is disturbingly dark and alarming. Having a hard time to comprehend that that kind of wretched household really exists somewhere out there--and there's a child. I wouldn't mind if a menage a trois happens again, only if it does not involve a child being the witness of it all.

On some passages, I really had to stop reading the next passage to just think and ponder. Munro's prose is so subtle, yet it hits you unexpectedly. It uncovers me with layers and layers of the bitter truth of reality. And I am somehow grateful, for having her naming out some of my skeptical questions about life around women, marriage, children and affairs.
