Made it to page 250 and called it quits. Just couldn’t hold my attention, I love the language, the complex sentences, too lazy to look up words. As a young romantic I would have eaten this up, but alas life is too short not to be excited by the books I pick up.

Larry is starting Typewriters, Bombs, Jellyfish: Essays
That someone cares enough to write these essays on lit with such erudition allows me to hide from the “real” world for a second.

This JUST popped up on my radar via and article about Gaddis and Wallace and dialogue punctuation. Out of print, I immediately forked $25 clams over. Page 2 so far so good!

Larry is finished with Chuck Klosterman X: A Highly Specific, Defiantly Incomplete History of the Early 21st Century
I've loved CK since I discovered Fargo Rock City on the library shelf. This one is a great collection.
In a story about performance enhancing drugs in the NFL:
"The most important date in the history of rock music was Aug,28,1964. This is the day Bob Dylan met the Beatles and got them high."
In interview with Jimmy Page:
"Was part of your motive for making that Coverdale/Page album an attempt to annoy Plant?"

At this point I know for certain Rebecca West is one of the most intelligent people I've ever read, and her prose is just ridiculously beautiful and capable of painting pictures. I don't mind taking my time with this monster at all.

Reading this with the Bookclub so not going full speed ahead, which is good because it makes a perfect companion to other read in progress, Black Lamb and Grey Falcon.

Dudes! I've wanted to read this for a long time soley based upon it's spine sitting on my library bookshelf. (I work there so I saw it everyday.) The spine was the sea-foam green of my favorite imprint Penguin Twentieth Century Classics, and it was FAT. 1181 pages fat. I knew this must be for me. But a non-fiction fatty? About Yugoslavia, I could care less about the former Yugo! A few pages in and my insticts served
