THIS IS GARBAGE but i didn't listen to 6 other awful books just to stop now (book 1 wasn't atrocious and 2/3 were tolerable but this is just straight - and i do mean AGGRESSIVELY STRAIGHT - up bad).

this author has some incredibly toxic ideas about relationships.

this book is honestly the worst???

honestly I'm so sick of this author. starting to come off as someone who wanted to write (hetero) romance but realized there was more $ in YA fantasy.

I'm probably gonna finish the series because that's who i am as a person. unfortunately my desire to know what happens is more powerful than my loathing for the writing.

but seriously, there could be a drinking game based on overused phrases in the books.

this makes no sense at all and reads like the author forgot about the character development in the previous books tbh. in general I find inconsistency and overreacting in characters to be super annoying though, like suddenly no one's capable of thinking about things with nuance, even though they had to be capable of that to get to this part of the story in the first place???

okay that was a good twist.

if the reason Kara can pilot Themis is because she has alien not-DNA (which i thought was the implication in the first book?!) and the people who are immune to the gas are immune because they have alien not-DNA, why the fuck would the gas have killed her? seems totally inconsistent.

accidentally took a break from this one for a while (most of my breaks from books are accidental); but I wish I hadn't because it continues to be excellent. i want to share these stories with so many people, and i love feeling excited and absorbed in all these little snapshots of other people's lives.

two stories in and I've already laughed out loud and cried (maybe even *wept*?) and will be recommending this ceaselessly until you're sick of hearing me talk about it.

if you read this and it doesn't fill you with rage and despair, we probably wouldn't get along.
