So far very weary and wary of the frequent use of “healthy/unhealthy” and immature” instead of biblical sin language, and with Scripture being slapped on for the occasional and sloppy proof text—

But my faith is restored slightly by his beautiful passage Naomi and learning to trust God again after pain and loss. I’ll keep reading.

“If you do not want a child to paint, you take away his palette. If you do not want him to use his imagination to conceive of archetypal stories, you take away his narrative palette. You take away, or corrupt, or subvert all his types. That you will do most efficiently if you deprive him of folk tales.”

I could highlight this whole chapter.

I’m enjoying this but…. He’s going for a Screwtape Letters vibe (“oh no! My child has an imagination! How to destroy it, hmm”) but it is NOT a series of letters from a demon, and the chapters are long.

Therefore I keep forgetting that we’re talking from a false negative and occasionally am taken aback by something he’s saying but jot actually promoting. Not my fav format.

Holy cow does this read like Lewis. Another one of those odd moments where I’m glad I haven’t started a common place book, as I would be copying 80% of each chapter and would never finish reading this book.

Well I feel a little silly for not knowing The Jungle Book had more than just the Mowgli stories in it 🙃

DNFing this book.

It reads like a string of mediocre blog articles. Repeated “hygge” and “hyggelig” so often that I’m wondering if she had trouble meeting her word count. Added nothing to my life.
