A section that sticks with me comes from pages 380-381, where Fern thinks about what was important to her before she came to the Home, and how her mindset has changed since then.

Another section that resonates with me and made me feel something happens on page 416, right after Holly delivers her baby. Fern is struck by the miracle of life and childbirth -- First there is nothing. Then there is.

Author insinuates that Ted Bundy is the kidnapper of 8 y/o Ann Marie Burr, who disappeared and was never seen again. Bundy was 14 at the time, and while he is considered a suspect in the disappearance, he is never tried or convicted. One has to admit though, the circumstances are concerning.

This book is giving me whiplash. Every time I think the plot is progressing or I've figured out which direction the book is headed, something stalls or changes and I'm thrown again.

While I absolutely appreciate what this book is doing for the trans community and POC within the LGBT+ community, I feel the storytelling itself is somewhat lacking. The author's intent and priority seems to be a little lost.

Starting this book in tandem with my mom. Reading 1-2 chapters at a time, sharing the book back and forth. Maybe I'll let you know how it goes. /shrug

Switching to the audiobook version of this title, read by Daveed Diggs. I almost wish I'd just listened to the audiobook from the start, as it's made this book much more digestible considering how much I'm struggling to keep interest in this story.

I've been sitting with this book for some time, and I can't quite seem to find time to finish it. Hope to pick it up again someday later.
