This book, to me, draws parallels to Lord of the Flies. The characters in this book are good people (at least in normal circumstances.) However, when a catastrophe occurs, everyone loses their minds. The characters are (except Ruby) are so well written and make me believe that their actions are genuine and true. I believe that if the story wasn't first person, I would like Ruby more, because her thoughts are so dull.

To be honest, Ruby is not what people may call, well, a very bright girl. That part comes later. For now, she is a scared girl, and I admire her about it. Tough I can't see why she would obsess about her phone when, more likely than not, cell service is down. Her reaction to her mother and brother's death was pretty lackluster as well.

This book caught my attention with its absurd premise. But as I read the first few pages, I was hooked. Ruby manages to think like an actual teenager might think, and Bergin does it quite well. Though, Rubybaby is a little corny for my tastes.

I totally ship Malachy and Layla now. They are just too adorable. Also, I was correct in my prediction that the girls would be targeted for their Iranian origin. I wonder what will happen to the girls if they try to fight back.

The characters in this book act like real people, the way that they react to the people around them. On the other hand, the constant food references are kind of tiring. What's a garm and a sard? (I did learn this, but it was still pretty new to me.)

This was a very interesting part of the book to read, despite it being 4-5 pages. Thomas is a very bitter man, and clearly needs to move on with his life. I predict that it is Thomas that will cause trouble for the three sisters, as well as provoke the townspeople into hating them.

I am truly curious as to when the conflict is going to arise. I predict that the conflict isn't going to present itself over time, but it will appear in a flash.

I am curious about whether or not the three sisters' heritage will be a source of hardship for them. For instance, will they experience xenopobia or racism from the members of their community?

The characters are so cute and charming. Not only that, but they are well written. The sisters seem to genuinely care about each other. and I can actually feel what they are feeling.

I found the beginning to be quite calm compared to the blurb on the back of the book. I wonder if the major conflict will occur soon.

I think it's very charming how Lucy grew up. It makes me wish that my family could be a cultured (food wise) like her family.

I find myself disliking Miss Caroline solely for this reason and this reason alone; she acts likes she is assisting Jean by telling her to tell her father to stop helping Jean read. The job of the teacher is to work with what she/he has got, not by changing the thing in its entirety to conform to his/her needs.

I find it very nauseating that a girl so young as Satrapi at this point in the book has been subjected to so many things that adults in the US find hard to swallow. Yet I still find it sweet that Marjane had out of this world dreams like kids today do. That, I find, pretty comforting.

I love how brutally honest Swados is in presenting her experience with depression.

What I was thinking of when I read this section was how dark a turn the characters seem to have gone. Esperanza's friend Sally was beaten by her father, and Esperanza was sexually assaulted by a guy while Sally did nothing. When I read those parts, I stopped and wondered if Sally didn't do anything out of fear for her safety. Because of that, I believe that the majority of people would have done what Sally did.

When I read these past few seconds, it got me thinking about the idea of death, and how so many people either ignore, joke, or dread it. When Esperanza and her friends were joking about Esperanza's soon-to-be dead aunt, I contemplated what would happen if anyone, including me, in my life were to go out like that. So far, I am liking how this book, despite being so thin, can make me wonder so much.
