CH18 “Murtagh shook his head dubiously.
“I still say the only good weapon for a woman is poison.”
“Perhaps,” replied Dougal, “but it has its deficiencies in face-to-face combat."

All I can think right now:

"I'm a fucking demon."

“Are you accusing me of being a Hilton?” I sputter. “Or a, a–” my head might explode, “Kardashian?”

“The Hellish equivalent.” He pauses, then adds thoughtfully, “You know I don’t think it needed the qualifier.”

I knew I’d regret my promise, just not quite this soon. “ You don’t wear pink!”

“Yeah, well, no one thinks I’m in league with the devil.” She shoves it into my chest.

I narrow my eyes. “I do.”

His eyes widen and tear up, his mouth falls open, and his head jerks back and forth in a tiny little “no”. He stares at my mouth, begging my lips with his eyes not to make the shapes he knows are coming. They do anyway.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles lied to me. The sewer is emphatically not somewhere you want to live, let alone eat pizza in.

What is it about these dwarfish little humans? They lack smarts, lack skills and they never seem to have much money. Yet they are powerful little monsters - adults dance to the tunes played by their chubby little fingers. ...Suddenly the lower lip pokes out and the eyes grow even bigger. I feel a tug in the region where my heart should be ... want to give it things ... Ahhhhhh! Look away!

Chi pauses at the door and quirks a blond eyebrow at me. “You ready to play the bad girl?”
I give him a vicious grin, all teeth, and he draws back. I wrinkle my forehead and ask, “Was that good?”
There’s a beat as he blinks, “Um, yeah, good.”
Hehe.

Like anyone on a diet, I’ve found that complete abstention never works— it just leads to poor decision-making later. Of course, my binges don’t result in weight gain, but rather indiscriminate homicide. I’d say the stakes are higher, but then a Twinkie would no doubt disagree.

CH9 "You’re, er, quite sizable, aren’t you?” I said. A half-smile curved his lips and he nodded...

CH 7 “For headache,” read one entry, “take ye one ball of horse dunge, this to be carefully dried, pounded to powder, and the whole drunk, stirred into hot ale."

The truth is that nothing moved, nothing changed, nothing whatever appeared to happen and yet I experienced a feeling of elemental terror so great that I lost all sense of who, or what, or where I was.

"Quite a girl," murmured Victor.
"We're going to be married," answered Bowden matter-of-factly.
Victor frowned and looked at him. "Love is like oxygen, Bowden. When's the happy day?"
"Oh, she doesn't know yet," replied Bowden, sighing.

"...Mr. Delamare, my friend, have you committed your wicked act today?"
"Yes, Mr. Hades. I drove at seventy-three miles per hour."
Hades frowned. "That doesn't sound very wicked."
Delamare chuckled. "Through the mall?"
Hades wagged an approving finger and smiled a wicked smile. "Very good."
"Thank you, Mr. Hades."

"Words are all very well," I replied coolly, suddenly enjoying the SO-5 woman-of-mystery stuff, "but a nine-millimeter really gets to the root of the problem."

"Did the memory erasure device work, Uncle?"
"The what?"
"The memory erasure device. You were testing it when I last saw you."
"Don't know what you're talking about, dear girl..."

By night I am free. No one hears my monsters but me. My freedom is fragile, though, because every morning, over and over, the night is broken by the sun. It's a good way to die.
