I just need to sit down and finish this.

Omg this Zara chick, aka Female Jack Barlow from Fourth Wing, is so obnoxious. I get the good guy sparing the life of the bad guy once, maybe twice, but after that? Nope. Finish the job. The repetition of this storyline is so boring and played out. Enough. Her death wasn’t even satisfying because she was so obnoxious and I was so tired of hearing about her.

I can’t put my finger on what makes this book so cringy.

I am not loving this, but I also don’t DNF books. Just waiting to see if there’s a hook. This might be better if you haven’t read a lot of romantasy. Otherwise it feels like it’s recycling a lot of elements of other books. And almost all of the names of the characters are STUPID. Like, make you roll your eyes kind of stupid.

“Please just shut up and let me be romantic for once in my fucking life.” Omg, lol. Their banter is the best. I don’t want this book to end.

“Let me love you. Show me every jagged, ugly piece of you, and watch me stay anyway. I will stay. But you have to let me.”

Okay, Tiernan is still #1 for me, but dang, Achilles’ soft side is something else. His devotion to Tierney is unmatched.

“All right.” Enzo rubbed his hands together. “I’m ready for my Jerry Springer moment. Who’s announcing the DNA results? Tiernan?”

I swear these books are laced with straight cocaine. I can’t put it down.

She wears a dress to a ball that has wings. Initially like bat wings…but then the fabric makes them look like feathers. So raven wings.

Just like when Katniss’ dress turns into a mockingjay.

Some of these similarities are too much for me.

This just feels a little lacking in creativity. A weird mashup of Fourth Wing, Hunger Games, and Harry Potter 4 where someone special to them is taken and they have to rescue their loved one. I’m waiting for it to start standing on its own.

I am struggling so hard with the Dain-esque character being named Jonas. 🫠

Upon introduction, I can tell the character named Jonas is going to be the childhood-friend-turned-enemy. I just have a feeling. This is the second romantasy book I’ve read with a character named Jonas and it is super weird to have a child whose uncommon name turns up in two fairly new, fairly popular romantasy books.

Don’t really know what is going on at this point, just in it for Anthony Palmini narration right now.

I did not expect to be obsessed like this.

“I hoped what I was feeling was a fatal heart attack and not fucking flutters.” I did not anticipate giggling and being this giddy over a mafia romance but here I am needing an Irish mob boss in my life.

I fear I have become a mafia romance girl. This is unputdownable.

Listen, I love Stark, and the steamy scenes are very spicy, but consent can be conveyed without actually using the word. Consent is obviously important, but let it be understood through the interaction between characters. Every time I hear the word “consent” it pulls me out of the story immediately. It’s too clunky and awkward and it’s ruining these scenes.

Wow, there is a LOT of stuff happening. I feel a little overwhelmed.

I’m trying really hard not to be too critical or mentally tick off all the tropes we are hitting (one horse, “who did this to you?” [coming from HER made is cringy; coming from HIM would’ve had me melting], and a few others that don’t come to mind). I’m a vibes reader but sometimes I find myself cringing.

HOWEVER. Gabriel Michael’s narration is so delicious it makes my toes curl. 20/10, no notes.

“Festering misogyny” made me roll my eyes so hard I think I passed out. Can we just not?
