What's the obsession with avocado toast and why on earth does Hechtman think you can't get avocado toast in the midwest? Like no one outside of California knows what an avocado is?

“I can’t force a new owner to do things the way we do… They will be all about keeping the costs low.” Here we go Hoosier bashing just a few pages in! There is no buyer but when she finds one they’ll be greedy and ignorant and will not want to support a person with special needs.

I hate when authors have characters who go through fertility treatments, it doesn’t work, and then when they stop the treatment and “stop stressing” they magically get pregnant on their own. Somehow no one seems to realize (other than those of us who have been through it) that this is total victim shaming. Like infertility is our own fault because we’re not doing it right.

Um. Then why bring it up? That’s a pretty good summation of the entire book so far. We only just found out how the victim was killed and we still don’t know who found the body. “Interesting”? No. Not at all actually.
