“Inside the room, Phoebe locks the door. She is satisfied by the sharp, metallic sound.” OMG I really want to like this book. I’m reading it for book club and I have been the Debbie Downer of the group. I haven’t liked most of what we read. But as much as I want to like this, I just can’t! This book is drier than a saltine cracker in the Sahara desert.

And it gets better! Blatantly contrived to fight over nothing, then he leaves town! This is boiler plate cheesy Romance.

Eye roll. Here we go. One won’t tell the truth and explain their perfectly understandable behavior, one overreacts and throws a toddler temper tantrum, relationship destroyed for no reason at all. Meanwhile, person in position of trust betrays MC. But of course they’ll get back together and betrayer will get their comeuppance because that’s how all these cheap, throwaway Harlequin romance novels go.

She’s upset with Damien, mad that he has first rights of refusal on all her gran’s future work… but she knew that was part of the production co and she willingly walked away from it with nothing. If she didn’t want him to have that, she could have taken it in the divorce. Instead she took nothing, didn’t even try… and now she’s whining about it? I kinda hate Georgia. She’s such a whiny little wimp!

This book lost me immediately. There’s a serial killer and suddenly, after two months in this place, Charlie has to leave right this instant and is willing to take a ride with a complete stranger rather than wait two more days for her boyfriend to take her. Ridiculous and easily remedied by making Josh a classmate or a barista she sees once a week. That would give her a reason to think she could trust him.
