The metric for relative risk of car accidents is measured by deaths / vehicles miles travelled rather than deaths / population because they don’t see themselves as public health they see themselves as roadway efficiency :(

y’all… i’m never finishing this book like. I get the point. he saw the west as a hitchhiker, fetishized a Mexican wife, romanticized a working class life and lived to tell the tale. not only does it not age well, I think it was pretentious even for its time.
