Another fabulous story by BK. This one uses nature and ecology as background for three seemingly separate stories that we eventually see as interrelated. I will be sad to say good bye to these characters.

I’m more of a Tolstoy fan. Decided to read this old classic by Dostoyevsky. I am about 50% through. It is a good Kindle version You can click on foot notes etc and get notes and word definitions. I can't add much to what has been said about this classic.

Complicated social system in this fantasy world I'm enjoying it so far

Now about 50% into the book and enjoying it still. One wonders if there is an allegory embedded in the themes of the story.

It is not spoiling the story to say that the book starts off with seemingly disparate short stories of the characters, which will slowly come together as the book moves a long. I am now about 50 % into it and thoroughly enjoying it. I have discovered that there is a non fiction book, "The Hidden Life of Trees" (Wohlleben) that complements this novel. I have placed it on my list.

Tried my best at "Room with a view", and just could not get into it. I cant understand the Victorian sense of what is proper. EM obviously could.

Just finished reading a Philip Roth novel. Just experiencing the first few pages. The difference in writing style was breathtaking. Enjoying this book.

I am listening to it on Audio. About 1/3 of the ay through. Have to realize it was completed before Obama was elected president. Theme seems to be bringing us together, which is refreshing in view of today's polarization.

It gets better as it goes along. Kind of hard to keep up with all the characters so it would help the reader to have a list of them and their relationship to the two girls.

Imagine this. You are a grad student at Columbia in 1938. One of your roommates is destined to live on the Greek island of Patmos writing mystical poetry like John of Revelations. Another is a Hindu monk named Bramachari who recommends that your read St Augustine. So is it only logical that you become a Trappist monk ? This a beautifully written autobiography. I recommend it

My paper back copy has very small print. I put book aside until after my cataract surgery was finished. Now back to slowly wading through it.

Michael Graves is finished with Kristin Lavransdatter
Finished some time ago. Enjoyed book a lot. The number of named characters is a little bewildering at first. There must be several hundred. I found that all I needed to really know are Kristin, the man she married, and the man she did not marry. I really enjoyed going back to medieval times in this epic story.
