I absolutely loathed Hawking’s A Brief History of Time right up until the end when I realized I loved it. So I’m looking forward to a similar experience with The Grand Design.

When you’re side-eyeing a book trying to decide whether it’s completely racist or not - its a bad sign.

This has been a very exhausting book already. I still have so much to go.

It is so hard to see Tyson and Lang proceed this far into the book, having mentioned Captain James Cook twice and not see a single acknowledgement or mention that he was a monster. I hope it is eventually at least acknowledged.

This is an interesting History lesson, but it also feels incredibly incomplete. It’s a sizable book, and yet also achingly basic.

I’m getting the distinct impression this was written with only American audiences in mind.

Remarkable. Simply extraordinary! I can't believe he has gone a full 6 chapters without even name-referencing a single female character, even in passing.

I'm reading this book with my two children and they are completely absorbed in both the mystery of the beast and the mystery of where and when a single female name will appear on the page. We're holding bets.

I think we can all just agree that Astrophysics isn’t my strong suit.

So far this book is MUCH easier to digest but also strangely less satisfying to read than A Brief History of Time.

I think it’s kind of unusual for a text on human evolution to make you cry. But there you go. Thanks for the journey, Adam Rutherford.

I really like how Stephen Hawking will tease out four different ways of thinking about the same thing before telling you why they're all outlandishly wrong, then explaining how he thinks it really is.

Really doesn't make me want to burn his book to the ground at all.

I CAN NOT

I can not rightly say why I am so irrationally angry at Stephen Hawking as I read this book. But I’m quite certain that if he were alive, he’d have an illegible graph and an entire research paper I couldn’t understand, just to explain it to me.

Now he’s just making shit up.
