So far I'm finding the story entertaining enough but Neema keeps annoying me. She is 34 years old but often reacts/thinks like a 20 year old.

I'll keep pushing through because the murder mystery has started. I have a pretty strong idea of how it's going to resolve so I'm curious to see if I'm even remotely correct.

I've been putting this off for a while purely because I truly cannot stomach reading about attack dogs or animals twisted for war. As it turns out, that's the whole point. Tchaikovsky continues to be a deeply empathetic author, and Rex is a very Good Dog.
