Beth is finished with Year of No Clutter
A memoir, not a self-help book. Enjoyed it.

Listening to the audio book. I like his voice/reading - nice enunciation, easy to understand, neither too slow or too fast.
I really love it so far. I keep thinking I should take notes but I listen to audio books while I'm cleaning and doing other errands. I got the print version for when I'm finished.

Amazing story. Beautifully written. He's a master of the kind of sentences that make you close the book and just think about it for a bit. Excited for the rest.

Beth is on page 89 of 288 of Less Is More: Embracing Simplicity for a Healthy Planet, a Caring Economy and Lasting Happiness
I’ve just finished the first section titled “Simplicity Defined”. It’s interesting in an academic way. It’s essays on the Voluntary Simplicity movement, where it came from, background on US culture and how it created our current consumerist system. Hoping for more practical information. Fortunately the next section is called “Solutions” - they do acknowledge their movement needs to be more accessible.

So far it's excellent. However, it is not a relaxing read. It didn't take long before I started spending the whole time terrified she'd get caught.

I struggled a bit when I first started this. It was hard to focus on. And then I finally realized: this is something to read slowly. It's right in the title: reflections!
Since I slowed down and stopped trying to read it like a book it's going much better. Really enjoying reading a few passages in the morning w/ coffee, while lying in bed, or outside on a warm afternoon, and then thinking about it.

Welp. Fascinating but more than a bit depressing =/

Very good - imo the history is the best part. I already have such a list of historical events to read more about! Many I have only learned about in passing and very long ago. What a fascinating and fragile time in history.

I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying this book (I'll be honest - I expected it to be a bit dry). McMaster is doing a great job showcasing the traditions and, more importantly, the personalities involved in the lead up to Vietnam and how that led to both our involvement there and how it affected the shape of the military today. A great read so far.

This book is amazing. As soon as I'm done I'm reading it again with a high lighter in hand. How have I never heard of it? The intro references it being required reading in some schools - I feel cheated that it wasn't one in mine.

I'm already convinced that I would be one of those people that spent most of their lives in the OASIS. I'm the same age as Halliday so this book is amazingly nostalgic!

I think there's a lot of imagery in the short stories - more like poetry. For me, it's thinky. Otherwise I'm just skimming over the words and missing the point - I have to concentrate. Bringing it to work for break time was a terrible idea.

Thusly, I am moving this book to my nightstand for 'before sleep' reading - I'm not very good w/ subjective imagery but I think I'm more open to it when my mind is relaxed.

Very good so far. All kinds of interesting bits on college sports (including recruitment), coaching, the difference between college/pro sports ... some are things that I had never considered. It was interesting.

His college years are a little heavy on detailed game descriptions (only a vague idea what he's talking about) but I think a sports junkie would probably love it.

Everything else is worth a read by anyone.

This is a thinky book! Every page or so I have to stop and think about what I've read (and then reread it). Interesting stuff and I feel like I'm only getting part of the picture. Right now I'm mentating on how you map stars. For some reason that blew my mind and I can't stop picturing it. Reading this book is going to take a long time. And I'm certain I'll have to reread it.

Ugh - the children are unbelievably stupid. They're written 5 years younger than they should be. It's annoying. Will probably complete but only because it's so short.

Starting to struggle on this one. (SPOILERS)

Blew through two characters that were developed and that i liked. Finally got to the main character but I'm not sure if it's too late or not. Maybe it's just my mood - I've been in a biography/memoir phase. Maybe I'll run w/ that and return to this later.
