Liking it so far, but why does it start at the same point in time as the journal? It's very weird reading the exact same story again, just written differently.

This may be the only cure to my Onyx Storm hangover.

I gotta say I really loved the first half but now I'm just getting annoyed at the ""good natured"" racism of the modern characters. Some things just really disgust me and it distracts from the rest of the book. Also too I think the way in which the stories are recounted makes it feel more than a little repetitive. This doesn't changed my opinion of the film, though, and I still think it's a good book.

This is literally all I could've asked for in a book.
In the first 10 pages we have a transgender witch with a loving and supportive found/adoptive family, he gets deadnamed but it's IMPLIED, and he also says ACAB.
Chef's kiss. Every bit.

Not the biggest fan of the art style but I absolutely love the writing. Usually memoirs don't keep my attention but with this one there's just the right amount of detail with perfectly placed time jumps to the point that it feels like the author is sitting next to me, telling her story.
I think the ultimate memoir format really is the graphic novel.
