I get why Hodges is in this book--partly to solve the problem at the end and partly to absolve Pete from giving his parents stolen money and his parents from not reporting it--but I do wish that the momentum didn't slow to a crawl every time he shows up.

Deliberately racist in places, unintentionally racist in others. Looking past all that--if you can--it's not bad.

God, this is gross. Not for the faint of heart. Very effective horror, building a steady sense of dread.

It was obvious early on that Max got killed, and Clara too. In Max's case, at least, it doesn't seem like such a loss, but I'll be sad to see Clara go.

It's okay, not great. The author seems to think that The Beach Boys wrote Helter Skelter, which makes me wonder what other (perhaps more significant) things she got wrong.

Oooh, plot twist which I first wondered about 100+ pages ago. Shocking.

Okay, one of these reveals seemed pretty obvious, & the next one does too. I am absolutely certain I know why one character is keeping secrets and what will ultimately be revealed, and yes, this is set in the U.K. not the U.S., and I'm willing to accept dark secrets and spy-like shenanigans and time travel but there are limits to my suspension of disbelief & this pro-status-quo BS just ugh... No. No thank you. No.
