I'm tossing in the towel. In desperate need of an editor.

23 pages in (9%) and I'm ready to bail. I'm getting whiplash from being in the present to looking back to being in the present again to looking back ... no transition, just bouncing. This would have been smoothed out by a good editor.

Onward. For now.

This is starting off well; I like her writing style

Note to author: The phrase is "No kidding." Really. No kidding, it is. Without the misplaced comma your editor consistently missed: "No, kidding." No. I'm not kidding. A mass search/replace should take care of the jillion occasions of the incorrectly punctuated phrase. No kidding. Each time I've run across this phrase it's snapped me right out of the story. No. Just ... no to "No, kidding." Seriously.

I am about one more misplaced comma away from a DNF

Another narrator who bungles her attempts at a regional accent - bad enough that it pulls me right out of the story. Being from Texas myself, these attempts are like fingernails on a blackboard. I'm reminded why I don't care for audiobooks.

Having a tough time staying in the story. My logical DIY brain keeps pointing out that you can't paint an exterior mural in sub-freezing temperatures. Why am I thinking about freezing paint?? Maybe it's magic paint. [Can't find the on/off switch for my brain...it's got to be here somewhere...]

I like recipes in cookbooks, not in novels. Sentence1: bees hovering over bushels of harvested fruit. Sentence2: Trees...waiting for harvest workers to arrive. Pulled out of the story by the second sentence. Pg70: powdered donut immediately prior to critical meeting? Pg 112: pilot to passenger "Down there on your left..." umm...would be the floor of the cockpit? Is there an editor in the house??

I don't think this was supposed to be a burst-out-laughing scene description, but that was my reaction:
