And despite the fact that he was angry (in large part on your behalf), YOU said he calms you down too much and so you can’t stand him. I hate this mc

I fear this girl just doesn’t know what the fuck she wants

For one- I think the imaginary turtle is a bit silly. For two- I wish there was more distinction in how the text is written on the page for the turtle dialogue

Thus far this (in many ways) feels like a less explicit version of The Piano Teacher and I fucking hated that book so we will see how this goes

Even though this author clearly has a specific opinion of Bard College (which I did not know would be referenced when I picked this book up), it is having gone to Bard that has allowed me to pick up literally any of the philosophy references. I have indeed read all of these pieces so far (especially true as I took a Jewish Thought & Philosophy course which is deeply steeped into this novel)

I picked this book because I wanted a book that seemed like a train wreck to get back into reading and we’re on page 5 and the main character as a girl is calling her parents oppressive and “Hitlers” - this is going to be a fascinating train wreck

If there is one constant in this world, it is that I will reread red, white, and royal blue

I do fear that every time it says Madame Morrible I just start saying in my head “Madame Morrible MM flip it around Wicked Witch” …. My brain is destroyed

I fear I just got the book off of hold at the library so I’m starting the new year with a Christmas reread which is a bit weird but I don’t care

My little allergy having self feels some of these feelings heavily😭😭😭

That line is almost word for word in dash and Lily (it’s not the first boyfriend that is important but the first one that matters except in dash and Lily it’s about first kisses lol)

I normally really enjoy the combo of these authors (I’m looking at you dash and Lily) but I find these characters to be absolutely fucking insufferable

Is it not truly the end goal for us to be enough- enough to be lucky. Enough to be alive. Enough to be with each other. Is that not the goal

Since driving along the Susquehanna is a normal occurrence for me, it’s fascinating reading a poem where it’s so transfixed on how the landscapes contribute to the feeling of life and death. Because for me, it is filled with nostalgia and home- and then complicates into the feelings of home. But seeing it as a guide point to something more is interesting

The Susquehanna??? I wonder where. The Susquehanna is such an old river- truly a magnificent piece of nature
