Audiobooks are trying to do too much all of a sudden. I don't need sound effects. I don't want to feel like I'm listening to an old timey radio program. Just read me the book.

Oh my god. This is an "authorized" sequel to The Haunting of Hill House. My love of Shirley Jackson is the only thing keeping me hanging on through the incessant yammering (and singing and Shakespeare recitations) of these theatre people. I hope the house eats them all.

I'd gotten so used to Plath's voice peppering the narration, from letters, diary entries, her calendar, etc. but since her ex took it upon himself to destroy or hide her writings up to her suicide, her voice is conspicuously absent from this chapter of the book, even tho she hasn't died yet. I hate how effective he was at silencing her, even now.
