I lost interest while still in her high school days, if I get this audiobook again from the library I might skip ahead to her career

I have an "attention" shelf that is full of books I was at one point "excited to read next!" or have been recommended to me, like on reddit, more than once. It has gotten out of control and this year I would really like to read or re-shelve as many as possible

I love writing a thoughtful and detailed review and when I click submit there's an error page. You think I can think those thoughts in that order again???

I've had 19 four or five star reads this year, 9 of which were five star. That's pretty unusual for me. I wonder if my depressed book slump and life difficulties have had me looking through my TBR for books I thought were more likely to appeal to me. Not consciously, at least.

Ok looking at the 55 books I read this year, it seems like NONE are from a black author! I need to change that asap

I think I want to read more shorter fiction next year, since I do love when a book has a coherent thought, says it, and ends. Looking for recommendations of novellas and short story collections and short books

If my youngest does well in preschool and starts going more often, maybe I could reach for a 100 book goal next year. Audiobooks on walks and doing housework seem a lot more do-able when there isn't a 3 year old soaking it up too

I had that feeling on the back of my neck that I'd read this before, even though what I was actually reading didn't seem particularly familiar, but then we got to the balloons and I've definitely read this before, probably one of the times I was on a kick of googling "famous reddit nosleep stories" and it was archived somewhere because it was being published

It's become such a THING lately to have female main characters be super into Taylor Swift, like especially in romance novels, so I've seen it a lot, but this is the first time I'm like "oh yeah this tracks" and it fits in as a character development shorthand pretty well

I'm reading a kindle edition and it is sooo bad. All typos and possibly was done with an ai reader that can't tell certain letters apart. It's a good thing that I know this story so well already because OOF.

She complains about how protestant work ethic toxic positivity sayings have even made their way to cutesy coffee mugs and I don't disagree but also girlypop those are your mugs? Presumably you bought them? Buy different ones. I have one with strawberries and it says "berry best mom" and I bought it myself, they don't even ask if you actually have kids. You don't NEED to have a toxic positivity mug

I’m really struggling with how if this was real life and I had a friend like Mara, I’d be sympathetic, but in this book… she’s upset that before they started the fake relationship Jonas asked some1 out, so she runs away and sleeps with some1 else.

Yeah it’s to show her self loathing and self destructive behavior, but also like… all their friends say she’s just like that and Jonas needs to deal with it

Like, I GET that there needs to be conflict and room for growth, but I am struggling to sympathize with a woman who is willing to do the fake relationship thing but not like, just regular lie for her job? Why did you tell them on live tv that you think love is a scam? Why not a wink and a whistful sigh that you are very open to being convinced? Something cheeky like that, why not

I read a lot, and I read pretty broadly, and this year I tried to focus a bit on reading 2024 releases and I STILL only read 3 books nominated for the goodreads choice awards. There's just no way to manage

It's funny how when I read I either
-dont have much to say (I loved it)
-I have so much to say (it was close to being good, and in fact this is the angry zone because it should have been edited into being good, reworked)
-I have so much to say (because it sucked)

Is there a book where main character is on a Bachelor or Love Island type reality show on a remote island and then there's an apocalypse event or zombie outbreak while they are there and safe for the time being?

I feel like there's a bunch where the reality show/island is claustrophobic and they want to escape, but is there one with the show/island as safety?
