I've always been fascinated by words and dictionaries, so this was an intriguing read. And it was a refreshing change to sample historical fiction NOT centered on WWII.

I've read many memoirs, drawn by a desire to learn more about a historical figure or a celebrity, but I can't say I've enjoyed many of them, and I've never given one 5 stars. This is probably the most enjoyable memoir I've come across. It made me laugh, it made me cry. It made me wish the author and her grandma could be part of my world. Treat yourself and give 'Nobody Will Tell You This But Me' a try.

I guess I just don't "get" this book. Somehow the characters felt contrived and the story fell flat. I read it through to the end, waiting for some twist or surprise that never happened.

Before Julia Child, there was Edna Lewis. A black woman, who was first a model, then the cook in a hip restaurant in 1950s New York City, hobnobbed with the social and literary elite - think Truman Capote, Marlon Brando, Gloria Vanderbilt and Eleanor Roosevelt. How have I never heard of Edna before now? As a foodie, reading through this collection of essays and articles by chefs and food writers was a treat.

If more parents read this, and applied even 10% of the knowledge, their kids' lives would improve tremendously. The choices parents make now have long-term consequences for kids, but it's bewildering to judge between legitimate information and what's today's hype. This book serves up the latest research in a common sense approach that helps parents understand not just the "what to do" but the "why".

Couldn't finish it...just lost interest.
