Re-reading this quickly to reacquaint myself with the characters and general story so I can finally finish the series.

I'm in prep mode for NaNoWriMo and am reading as many books on writing as I can for both tips & for prompt ideas for when I inevitably hit a block. Even books geared towards children, like this one, are considered. The first section alone already provided more insight and ideas than those written for high school & college students, and even those for adults.

As someone on their own weight loss & fitness journey, getting through the first 10 chapters was pretty rough. A lot of the thoughts, feelings, dealing with others criticizing you, etc, were entirely too relatable. I'm at least thankful that my family and friends have been supportive of me regardless of my weight, but knowing others don't just like Ann doesn't, is saddening.

I'm interested in premise of the story, but I can't get into what is written. Since this is a library book that needs to be returned, it's a DNF until I try again at a later date.

I wanted something quick, but enjoyable to read. I enjoy Grimm fairytales and figured a children's retelling would fit just what I needed. I'm enjoying it enough so far. I have to remind myself sometimes that it's a children's story and therefore should ignore the painfully obvious hints throughout, and to just enjoy the adventure.
