for a book my kid randomly grabbed off the shelves of the library for mommy to read, this is a surprisingly interesting and well-written memoir so far.

I didnt expect a random "don't give you baby formula" stance in a history book. Formula has definitely been oversold, but the answer to that is not to say we should all be breastfeeding our babies. Has this historian ever heard of wet nurses? Historically, sometimes parents need help feeding their babies.

Mhairi McFarlane books are _so_ incredibly British that I really have no idea what she is talking about a solid 40% of the time. I like her writing though.

At this point Lily's story is the most interesting, so of course its the thing the author has decided to just dangle in front of me to keep reading.

This is a really tough one for me to get into. The prose is so dense and the world feels very different so the epistolary nature seems like it is working against it.

Enjoying this more but I also am not a fan of Talasyn and question most of her choices.

god how am I only halfway through? this book is dragggginggg. I'm pretty fed up with Panchaali, like the author made her incredibly unsympathetic which is wild to me? Like she's just obsessed with Karna and makes all these decisions just to get him to notice her even though she has done nothing but slight him and he is the sworn enemy of her husbands.
