I don't know why KJ Charles isn't more mainstream/universally beloved* - her writing is beautiful and hilarious and heartbreaking. I randomly picked up The Magpie Lord at the library, and after just two chapters I knew I had to check it out because I was already hooked.

*this isn't quite true, I do know why - it's because she writes gay romances, mostly m/m, but man the rest of the world is missing out!

I'm loving this book so far - I used to live about a mile up the road from where it's set in Fell's Point, and it's so fun to see all the landmarks and Baltimore-isms referenced in the book.

I'm digging the book, but a little surprised by the characterization of Mallory as a mother. I can't imagine not doing every possible thing to save my kid.

Don't judge me. 😂

I'm a little less than halfway through, and this book is legit creeping me out in a way no book has in a long time.

This is a book I want to read through in one sitting, but also I want to take my time with it so I can stay in this world a little longer. I feel like I'm gravitating toward cozy fantasy more and more these days as the real world gets worse and worse.

I'm only on chapter 2 and I'm already obsessed.

Finally got this back from the library! Excited to finish it.
