Of one thing I am certain. All beauty contests for women, as well as for men, should be banned. Period. They are non-sensical, irrelevant and do more harm than good-or-bare-nothing to the society. They are harmful.

Our protagonist, and his curiosity, or brotherhood, or maybe even understanding being "expendable", -based comradeship with Raif Efendi. Almost nothing has happened, but the narrative, the story, the meanderings still pull you towards itself. Let it unfold...

"Time is what true romance is about".

I never thought that I, of all people, I, would enjoy a book that starts and essentially stays with infidelity. Nora Ephron's written humour is as good and as crisp as her potatoes. Her feel good movies have mostly unrealistic happy endings although her humour must not come from having one.

And Meryl Streep's voice.
Nora & Meryl. Meryl & Nora.
Now that was love, or appeard so.

Amelia B. Edwards' 'The Phantom Coach' - The story changes gears from loneliness & isolation to the supernatural & believing what experiments cannot prove, thus James Murray being the 4th passenger. But I suffer from the same fatal flaw of wanting proof. If she could have said something more about the 4th passenger, I would have believed his claims more easily. But I assume that is not the point of the story, right?

Sir Walter Scott's 'the Tapestried Chamber' - I haven't made my mind what my personal feelings are about his sentences. Need to read more of his to do so. But the climax was a bit let down. Can a reader forgive this let down since it was written sometime most likely, before 1829?

Nora Ephron's sense of humour and Meryl Streep's narration makes this book the ideal audiobook about "heartburn" or so it seems after a couple of hours in!
💔+😝=❤️‍🩹
It is scary how much I relate with lovely but late Nora.
