It has been a very, very long time since I have read a third person book that bounces from character headspace to character headspace so much and without warning. When introducing a lot of characters all at once, telling them apart is a mess. There's the one I thought would be the main character, the pretty one, the one named Clem who reminds me of a character from somehwere else and....the other two. Ugh.

Look, I really don't mind a lot of exposition or set-up or infodumping or whatever, but am I really supposed to already be this bored in a story that includes pirates? I am being reminded that Aveyard is one of those authors that I want to love, but something never quite lines up for me between her premises and her execution.

Look, I'll freely admit I'm just here for the slugs, and the previous novellas with Sanderson and Patterson were so fun. But I am so annoyed that we finally move on from Spin as a main character, only to have carbon copy Sadie take her place.

Maybe it's the audiobook narrator, but so far this feels so YA with yet another Most Assassiny Assassin to Ever Assassinate Someone. Was definitely expecting something more moody and mature. Trying to decide if this is a Me problem or a Book problem.
