This, like Babel, would be MUCH more compelling narratives if the instances of racism weren't so one dimensionally evil. I also disagree that this is just one or two degrees away from current events in many aspects of this book; again, if Ng would add a bit of nuance to her overt examples of racism, it would hit deeper. Albert has this unique way of writing stories that are so viscerally terrifying that every book the writes should be classified as a horror even though that's not the genre she intended. Her imagery is so real and creepy that I cannot read before bed anymore it's too hard
