This, like Babel, would be MUCH more compelling narratives if the instances of racism weren't so one dimensionally evil. I also disagree that this is just one or two degrees away from current events in many aspects of this book; again, if Ng would add a bit of nuance to her overt examples of racism, it would hit deeper. This just ain't it.

Here's another issue: China....IS actually a big problem?? lmao?? The same way that Russia poses a threat to our national security, the PRC may pose an even bigger one from an international security perspective and Ng conflating the very real threat posed by a large nation-state to our national security with anti-Asian sentiment in the US caused by a very different reason is irresponsible at best
