Well, the H is this story has blonde hair. The cover shows him dark haired. Nit picky? Hell no, I'd love this riverboat captain (Hal) if he was bald headed. Hum, hum...rather than River Devil, this title should read Smokin Hot Sexy Devil.

The intro to this story is going to weed out the wuss's straight away. Just like I like it. Kudos to Kimberley Patterson, our Goodreads author, for pulling out the stops while writing this stage coach hold up...

Kept me chuckling. Pg 207 LOL scene: Esteban, "I don't want to have to listen to you 2 making love all night long ever again!" Marc, "Are the walls that thin?" Esteben responds with one of Marc's most provocative moans and suggests Marc take her out to the stable when next an amorous mood strikes. Marc tells his brother she doesn't belong in a stable. Esteban tells him "Maybe not, but you sure as hell do"...

I can't help but chuckle at these two main characters. Favorite scenes...Marc (H) is talking to his brother Esteban about his failing marriage as they sit out in the barn getting drunk as skunks. Esteban finally asks him ..."Have you ever made love to woman who is whispering prayers to the Virgin for a child?" LOL, these men are so clueless, still makes me chuckle. Marc is a horn dog with so many crazy stategies

Pretty eye opening as to what was going on south of the border. Appears Jeanne Williams did her homework

I take it back,(h) is showing her backbone and some grit...she just might make it in 1903 Mexico after all... The story is pulling me in now. Violence and killing, it seems the Mexican soldiers have mutilation down pat. The Yaquis use machetes rather than the bows and arrows of the plains indians...if I remember my history, rebellion and war is just around the corner

Things are moving way too fast in this story. Told in the heroines 1st person POV, still get a pretty good idea of what's going on with the other characters...Trace Winslade the Tejano Pistolero...heroine's bitch of a sister, Reina (overused cliche plot crap here)....heroine, Miranda, too naive and stupid to live long in the turn of the 20th century, Mexico....

Whoa, here I go again. I thought scenes in ALEXA was squirm worthy, some in RAGE TO LOVE squirm worthy...this book jumps right into it...The French revolution has begun. An English lord has gone to the French prison to find his fiance. Oh, he finds her alright..what is left of her...

I'm calling a halt for awhile. The Earl of Argyle (makes me think of socks) and the Queen's ambassador is forcing Alexia to spy on her soon to be husband, Jamie. I HATE that plot subject. Makes me cringe. I love rape, pillage, slaughter, murder, revenge, hatefulness, war, gore; need I add more? But when it comes to deceit....that subject matter stops me dead and I refuse to read another page....until later:)

Proper Bostonian Garnet is getting an eye full as she arrives at the plantation...I don't want to stop reading. Authentic creole language is used between slaves and owners and takes some getting familiar with. I, along with Garnet witness wide spread torture of slaves, practice of vodoun (voodoo), the slaves believe Garnet a "loa" and keep their eyes on her (some in fear), hatred and threats from avoodoo "mambo"...

"We're taking on water, prepare to abandon ship"...the story begins with a bang on the very 1st page...what follows in this 1st chapter isn't rape...more closely a forced seduction by the (h) Garnet Winters...but I'll sum it up as a scene of what erotic dreams are made of...

So much depth in the characters of this story. No fluffy stuff here. So glad I opted to get this re-issue...if she edited it in any way, her writing and ability to convey what goes on in the mind and heart in the middle of life's tragic circumstances is amazing.

59 pages in and I didn't want to stop. Chase has returned home after being away working timber (Oregon). During those 7 years, life's experiences in the white man's world has carved big ugly niches in him. Hunter finds his son sitting out under a tree, half a jug of whiskey in his hand. A situation Indigo has told her parents of has spurred father and son to talk. Tears brought a halt to my reading for now...

Well, I can see why Canham would want to edit/revise/re-write this one. I would too. Slow going. Interesting plot, but, the characters don't stay in character. Particularly the (h) China Rose. Makes for very disjointed reading.

Canham has created a lead character in the aristocracy, Sir Ranulf Fitzhenry Cross, who is so egotistical, arrogant, and despicable...I can't wait until he falls off his lofty pedestal...I can't stand him

The story started out slow and lost me for awhile...but, picked up and soon turned into one I'll want to read again.

Lovin this story. There is a lot going on in this story. Ex convicts fresh out of Yuma State prison obsessed with vengeance; controversial love affairs with main characters involving a respected doctor and his Parisian whore, ex convict with his Chinese sweetie (as he deals with his prejudice against her race), wealthy and powerful man as he also deals with his obsession with his Chinese mistress...

About every 25 pages I think, I can't read anymore of this crap. Gabrielle St Cyr (h) has got to be the most asinine heroine I've come across in BR reading. No, I think I've reached my limit with this one. Sorry now that I've read so far hoping that it would get better. No Such Luck

I'm liking this one. 1760 England, orphaned heiress finds herself in a dangerous situation and sets sail to the American frontier as an indentured servant to a frontiers man with a small half breed daughter.
