The way that Nabokov writes about writing is, surprisingly, just as intoxicating as the way he writes fiction. It also makes me realize that I will never write fiction as well as he did. It evokes tears for sadness and happiness at once.

I’m enjoying this translation far more than Fagles’ so far.

I’m going to finish this but I’m not gonna like it.

I really don’t jive with Kuang’s dialogue in Katabasis, but I also don’t jive with anything else in it. I will finish this book, because I’m so far along, but it’s not my thing.

Going to finish this as I do enjoy it, but it’s basically just pop history. That’s fine; everyone needs a good pop-X book every once in a while. It’s certainly a nice break from Lovecraft.
