Cheryl is on page 44 of 259 of Good Morning, Midnight
Slow start. I thought about putting it down, but it's not long. And when I read the spoilers from certain reviews, I'm even more intrigued. I'll prolly be peeved if/when I finish, but here goes....

This edition, a hardcover Putnam, is significantly longer than the others catalogued here, at 253 pp. Hmm.

Cheryl is starting What Should We Be Worried About? Real Scenarios That Keep Scientists Up at Night
Picked up on the basis of the title alone. Didn't realize it was an Edge question. I did read, but not respect, one other Edge question collection. Hmm....

Cheryl is reading Hidden America: From Coal Miners to Cowboys, an Extraordinary Exploration of the Unseen People Who Make This Country Work
Does anyone remember Studs Terkel's books? I wonder if this isn't a shorter version of Working. Or, maybe, it's as casual as Mike Rowe's TV show Dirty Jobs. I'm looking forward to finding out!

Cheryl is reading The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1)
Not sure what page I'm on - we're finally in the arena, trying to survive the first night. So far the only thing that hasn't been done before is the part about the stylists & sponsorships. I do love the character of Cinna. Otherwise, this is what expected, which is 'meh.' I'm finding it way too easy to put down. Of course, I'm not into dystopia or adventure anyway.

This is kind of a test. I've never used this feature before. Please, friends and following, if you see this note, let me know if you use this feature. Oh, I should clarify, it's called 'add a general update' and it looks like it's part of the Currently Reading box but I guess it isn't quite. If you've been using it all along, I've not seen your updates. I'm so confused....

Cheryl is reading The Rural Life
I love how this opens, blowing me away from the first sentences. "I walk past the blank books - gifts of nothingness - that pile up in bookstores at this season, and I can almost hear their clean white pages begging to be defaced."

So far so lovely. It's not a narrative, and it's not cohesive. Each essay is short, some months are represented by only a couple of of essays, some by several. So read it like eating at a nice buffet - some dishes you'll like more than others, some are sweeter or more savory than others....

So far not enough (for me) about Grace Vatta. I think I actually might be sad when this series is done, because I'm not getting to know the characters as well as I want to.

Also, I'm forced to read slowly, because I never have to wait long for my turn; I can't just keep flipping pages and all of a sudden I'm done, as happens when I'm enjoying a sleepless night and an engaging novel.

Cheryl is reading The Woman I Kept to Myself
This is my current 'purse book.' That means I read it only when waiting for the windshield on the auto to be replaced or in other bits of time. It's perfect for that, as I can slowly read a poem, roll it around on my tongue, re-read it, pause, and then move on to the next to repeat the process. I don't have to keep track of a plot or of a character's development from one reading opportunity to another.

Cheryl is starting In the High Valley
Just so you know, if you care, I've not started this - I'm just using this status as a place-holder. I'm sure it's short and when I do start I'll read it in a day or two. It's just that it's on my (son's) e-reader and so it's waiting for the right opportunity.
