One third into the book, and it seems to be as good as Matrescence! Wow.

Disappointed by the lack of Halloween-y things despite the title! 🎃

(Kidding, good stuff.)

Only a few pages in and already ecstatic to be reading Jones’s extremely poignant writing once more. She hits the nail on the head again, and again, and again. (And just as reviews suggest, while it’s an amazing read for people who are already mothers, this might be somewhat discouraging for those who are only considering. Read with caution.)

An amazing book. Science delivered in the most digestible way. And very exciting too. It’s, of course, primarily for parents of little children, but I find myself reflecting on my childhood a lot as I read – and feeling a lot of empathy for my child self as some things’ behavioural origins become clearer ❤️‍🩹

The author is recalling her homeschooling experience: “we grew crystals, raised butterflies, mummified chickens – some are still buried somewhere in the backyard…”.

Interesting, interesting…

Plenty of fairy tale metaphors here.

Loving it! We all know that nature is good for us but this book presents a loooot of factual evidence: data, studies, all sorts of research. 🌿I already want to run away into the woods 🌿

Picked it up because it’s a paperback that’s easy to read while breastfeeding :D

Not sure I’ll finish this one (potentially too much Jungian analysis for me) but I like the main idea introduced: motherhood is like a descend into darkness and further reemergence into light. With all the good and bad, ugly and beautiful. (And it analyses fairy tales. That I like.)

I am basically hate-reading this book right now. Does it mean the author succeeded still?

More than 1/3 through the book and while I get that we, as readers, are supposed to somewhat feel surrounded by the same medicine-induced, numbing haze, it’s just… not a great read? If I’m supposed to be stimulated by how “bad” the main character is (oh, she was RELIEVED when her friend who’s mum just died did NOT stay over to share her grief), then it’s not really working. But let’s see.

So far, it made me feel like the main character could have been in “Velvet Buzzsaw” 🖼️
