Slow slow slow … too committed!

This is proving a real struggle. The style of the prose is not sitting comfortably. I’ll give it one more try … then it may get relegated to the “life is too short” pile.

Unexpected.

Not really my cup of tea.

I’ve fallen a year behind in my reading but that’s ok. These little magazines whilst seasonal, are timeless.

A surrealist novella with oblique humour and a little bit destabilising. In my days as a full time academic I’d have been picking this apart. Today it feels a bit too much like hard work.

Been sitting on my TBR pile far too long. I should have picked it up sooner! It’s beautifully written!

Beautifully written and paced so far.

A peculiar wee novel. Not sure I fully understand the cultural context sufficiently … a lot of ambiguity and assumed mutual understanding and coming at it from a Western perspective it’s quite challenging. There’s beauty in the prise but reading in translation that I suspect it doesn’t flow as poetically as in the original Japanese.
